As part of my ongoing crazy travel schedule, I’m going to be in Denmark in two weeks, and then off to Minneapolis for the brilliant Eyeo Festival. After that, I’ll be in New York for the Reasons Festival so I decided to spend the rest of June in the city.

And I’ve also decided to run a CreativeJS workshop while I’m there! It’ll be the full 3 day course from the 20-22nd June, and prices start at $1399 (or $899 if you’re freelance). Tickets on sale from next Tuesday (22nd) from 10am – they tend to sell out very quickly, so if you’d like early access, leave your email address below.

[UPDATE] You wanted it so you got it! New Amsterdam workshop on 10-11 April, tickets on sale Weds 22 Feb at 11 GMT (12 CET). Booking and information on my training page.

It was quite a week – all of my courses sold out in a matter of days (Brighton in only 24 hours!). I’ll be setting up more throughout the year but I’m considering adding another Amsterdam date while I’m there if there’s enough demand.

Learn to code in 2012 – the visual way

If you’re a designer or artist and have never programmed JavaScript before, I’ve got a new course just for you : CreativeJS for non-coders. It assumes no pre-existing code knowledge (although a little HTML/CSS will be helpful) and we start from the very beginning with variables, functions, and objects.

If you’ve been following the podcast or my recent posts, you’ll know that I’m passionate about encouraging creative people to start programming – often once they get past the hump of incomprehension they can often be the best coders. At the very least you’ll be able to communicate with the programmers you work with better!

Every thing we do has a visual counterpart on an HTML5 canvas element. So you can see straight away the effects of your actions. It’s how I learned to code all those years ago…

Creative JavaScript training courses for 2012

A quick heads-up : I’m in the process of putting new courses together for March and April in Brighton and Amsterdam. There’ll be a new Creative JavaScript course for complete non-coders, ideal for designers and artists to learn to code in a visual and fun way. But the existing CreativeJS is getting an overhaul too – it’s become so full of stuff, I’m making it a 3 day course, just to fit it all in!

I was recently the target of a twitter campaign to get me to bring my CreativeJS workshops to Leeds and Manchester. So many people expressed their interest and who am I to refuse them?

So I’m delighted to announce that I’ve set up venues and dates – tickets go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday 4th October) at mid-day! Register your interest and you’ll get first access to the tickets.

My NYC CreativeJS workshop sold out in a matter of hours* – yay! So I’m pushing my luck and setting up another one on the 11th and 12th October.

Tickets go on sale Monday at noon. As usual you save $300 if you’re a freelancer (or sole proprietor) with code INDIELOVE.

CreativeJS Training US tour

I’ve barely got my breath back after FOTB and my recent workshops, and now I’m taking my CreativeJS training on tour to the US East coast visiting NYC, DC, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday at noon (EST) but they usually sell out fast. If you register your interest you’ll get access to the first batch of tickets 24 hours before anyone else.

Three.js tutorial – getting started

Our very first tutorial has gone live on CreativeJS.com. Getting up and running with three.js can be tricky, but hopefully this will make it very easy!

I’ve refactored it since it launched last week – let me know if you find any errors!

It’s with a heavy heart that I leave New York, but I’m very excited to be heading home in a week or so. And America’s loss is Brighton’s gain with the next CreativeJS course in my home town.

It seems like yesterday that I embarked on my US CreativeJS tour, but would you believe it’s been 3 months since I touched down in San Francisco? But my time here has been so good and the workshops went brilliantly; some sold out within hours.

But I can’t wait to get back to my favourite venue, the Lighthouse in the North Laine. This 2 day course will cover all of my favourite JS visual effects and benefit from all the new things I’ve learned over the last few months with lots of bonus material.

As usual, there are only 12 places, and I’ve finely tuned all the parameters to ensure everyone has a good time and learns some practical and fun creative HTML5 techniques.

CreativeJS Brighton 18-19 August – tickets on sale 7th July at noon.
